Food subsidies in general equilibrium

چکیده
The Atkinson-Stiglitz theorem on uniform consumption taxation breaks down if prices are endogenous. This paper investigates the implications for optimal food subsidies in China. To do so, we build a general equilibrium model where low-skilled workers have comparative advantage production of food. Food raise relative demand workers, which reduces skill premium and indirectly redistributes income from high-skilled to workers. We calibrate our match key moments Chinese economy, including sectoral spending patterns that obtain micro-level survey data. Our results suggest effects rationalize range 5%-12%.

High - Technology Subsidies in General Equilibrium : A Sector - Specific Approach
We use a specific-factor model to exarnine the conditions under which policymakers are able to increase aggregate production of high-tech goods by production or R&D-subsidies in the short and long-mn. The difficulties for the policy-makers in designing a subsidy scheme that succeeds in expanding aggregate high-tech production involve taking into account the trade-off between resources used in R...
متن کاملOn the Optimal Provision of Social Insurance Progressive Taxation versus Education Subsidies in General Equilibrium
In this paper we compute the optimal tax and education policy transition in an economy where progressive taxes provide social insurance against idiosyncratic wage risk, but distort the education decision of households. Optimally chosen tertiary education subsidies mitigate these distortions. We highlight the importance of two different channels throughwhich academic talent is transmitted across...

Indonesia is the world’s largest importer of its staple food, rice. This commodity accounts for large shares of both consumers’ budgets and total employment. Advocates of this policy have claimed that by raising domestic rice prices it reduces po...

This paper assesses the macroeconomic impact of such changes in the KSA, coupled with reductions ...
متن کاملSuppression of agricultural subsidies in the Extremadura region: an applied general equilibrium analysis
In this paper an applied general equilibrium model for the Extremadura region is presented. Our aim is to show the importance of agricultural subsidies in this economy, that it is a distinctive characteristic of this region. To achieve this purpose, we analyse the effects of a supression of these subsidies, using different scenaries related to the labour market and tax compensation. Model param...
